What is the role of a Healthcare Support Worker at UHBW?
In order to undertake this role you must have :
(please note you will not be shortlisted if you do not meet the criteria):
- You must have at least six months experience in similar healthcare role
- You must have a minimum of an NVQ level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care and GCSE A*- D in English/ Math's or equivalent
- You must be able to work a minimum of 3 long shifts per week, on a 24/7 rota (no fixed shifts)
Main duties of the job
You will play an essential role in supporting the delivery of the highest standard of quality care to our patients, working alongside registered nurses and other healthcare professionals. Your role will include a wide range of tasks, from providing personal and intimate care to undertaking clinical observations. You will be required to follow stringent policies such as infection control and manual handling policies. In addition you will be providing emotional and practical support to patient & their families.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care, or equivalent
- GCSE A*- D in English Language or equivalent (e.g. Certificate in Adult Literacy at Level 1) and GCSE A* - D or equivalent in Mathematics (e.g. Certificate in Adult Numeracy at Level 1)
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of providing care in a healthcare or social setting
- Be able to work as a member of a team
- Experience of time management skills and prioritising work
- Understands and committed to a caring approach to patients & relatives
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Effective and appropriate communication skills both written and verbal
- Able to complete appropriate documentation accurately
- Demonstrate an awareness of healthcare work and policies and procedures
- Committed to providing high quality patient care
- IT skills, basic word, Email, keyboard skills, data collection
- Ability and willingness to undertake appropriate training
- Flexible and adaptable to change, able to work a range of shifts and moving across wards/unit dependant on clinical need
- Able to demonstrate calm, caring patient manner / attitude
- Enthusiasm and commitment to working within the healthcare setting
- Able to meet the physical and developmental demands of the role
